Dr. Erica Brown is the Director of the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts in the NIH Office of Extramural Research. As such, she provides leadership, coordination and management of the approval and publication of Funding Opportunity Announcements and Notices in the NIH Guide, ensuring that all announcements comply with NIH, DHHS, and OMB policies. She also provides technical leadership and guidance on a range of scientific, academic, legislative, and public policy matters related to NIH extramural research programs. Prior to becoming the Director of the NIH Guide, she served as the Director of the NIH AREA Program from 2011 – 2013 and as a a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) in the AIDS Research Review Branch of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) from 2006 – 2011. Dr. Brown obtained her B.S. in Biochemistry from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. She earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed her postdoctoral training in the NIAID Intramural Research Program.
