Dr. Jessica Smith serves as a Scientific Program Analyst for the NIH Common Fund in the Office of Strategic Coordination (OSC) in the Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI) in the Office of the Director. In this role, Jessica provides scientific expertise and analysis to facilitate program management, strategic planning, evaluation, communication and outreach, and science policy for Common Fund Programs in a variety of scientific areas including chemical biology, cellular and molecular biology, and genetics. Jessica Smith joined the OSC after the completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, in the NIH Clinical Center. In collaboration with the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), she developed high throughput screening assays toward identifying small molecule inhibitors for cancer therapy. Prior to that, she received a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine with a focus in chemical biology and pharmacology toward antibiotic development. Jessica is also involved in several professional service and volunteer activities, to further the goals and needs of women in science.
