Dr. Michelle Timmerman is the Director of the AREA Program, Guide Policy Officer, and Coordinator of the NIH Conference Grant Program in the Office of Extramural Research. She served for 7 years as a Scientific Review Officer for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), where she managed the review of career development awards (Ks) and training grants (T32s), in addition to managing the review of research grants, contracts, and complex mechanisms in Special Emphasis Panels. Prior to that, she was a regulatory reviewer at the Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Timmerman earned her BS in biology summa cum laude from Denison University, a small liberal arts college in central Ohio, and her Ph.D. in microbiology from University of Wisconsin-Madison and conducted postdoctoral research in bacterial pathogenesis at University of Iowa.
